TECHNICIAN/SENIOR TECHNICIAN/CHIEF TECHNICIAN - GIS AND REMOTE SENSING (1)
Description
Duties
The successful candidate
will be responsible for:
Installing,
updating, and troubleshooting GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS Pro, QGIS) and
maintaining hardware;
Ensuring
the GIS laboratory is available for student use during scheduled hours,
maintaining lab cleanliness, and enforcing policies regarding equipment
usage;
Providing
on-site support to students encountering technical issues with software,
data, or hardware;
Assisting
with leading lab sessions, tutorials, or workshops for undergraduate GIS
courses;
Assisting
Lecturers in preparing and organizing datasets and lab exercises;
Assisting
researchers and students with data gathering, digitizing, scanning, and
cleaning spatial data;
Documenting
data by creating metadata for spatial datasets used in coursework;
Updating
and organizing existing GIS databases, shapefiles, or geodatabases;
Assisting
Lecturers and students with research projects, including innovation with a
GIS-component;
Assisting
with field data collection using GPS equipment and drones.
Qualifications And Experience
Applicants must have passed five (5) Ordinary Level subjects,
including English Language, Mathematics, and a Science subject;
Applicants must hold
a Diploma (for Technician) or Degree (for Senior/Chief Technician) in
Geographical Information Systems and Remote Sensing /Geospatial
Science/Geospatial Intelligence or equivalent from an accredited institution;
One (1) year post-qualification experience;
Applicants must have experience in both
Geographical Information Systems and Remote Sensing hardware and software maintenance
as well as possess intimate knowledge of office software applications and
networking;
A Remote Pilot Licence (RPL) as
well as experience in the use of drones, would be added advantages;
Industrial certification in software development and network
administration shall be added advantages.
Skills
Successful applicants must be able to
demonstrate:
GIS and
Remote Sensing Workflows, prepare, demonstrate and supervise practicals for
students, and to carry out GIS analysis for research;
Proficiency
in ESRI products (including ArcGIS Pro) and Open-Source GIS (including QGIS);
Knowledge of coordinate systems, map projections,
and cartographic principles.
