Description




The candidates should
be able to teach any three (3) courses in Geometallurgy and Mining Engineering that include Mine Planning
and Design, Mine Safety, Health & Environment, Mine Surveying & GIS,
Computer Aided Design in Geometallurgy
and Mining Engineering
, Surface & Underground Mining Technology,
Principles of Machinery Design, Mining Machinery, Materials Handling &
Services , Mine Ventilation Practice, Explosives & Blasting Technology,
Mineral Economics, Mining Project Evaluation, Extractive Metallurgy Applications
and other Geometallurgy and Mining
Engineering
related courses. The Department reserves the right to
allocate courses for teaching.



Duties

Teaching and
learning



·        
Facilitating learning and examining academic
modules for Undergraduate and postgraduate students;



·        
Advise students and collaborate with faculty on
teaching and learning within and across Departments, and the University;



·        
Develop teaching and learning materials and
handouts for the assigned module(s) or as assigned by the Head of Department;



·        
 Conduct
periodic review of teaching and learning materials and adapt course materials
as informed by research.  Contributing to
the review and enhancement of the curriculum;



·        
 Design and
implement a regime for both formative and summative assessment within the
framework of the General Academic Regulations and the related Standard
Operating Procedures (SOPs);



·        
 Provide
academic and career guidance to candidates and



·        
Supervising both Undergraduate and Postgraduate
students’ research activities in their fields of specialization.



 



Research



·        
Publishing in peer-reviewed journals;



·        
Participating in internal and external Research
Clusters to promote collaborative research;



·        
Seeking funding for research projects through
grant applications;



·        
Supervising students' research activities and



·        
Attending local, regional, and international
research conferences.



 



 



University
Service/Community Engagement



·        
Taking some administrative responsibilities
related to the department such as: student admissions and induction programmes;



·        
Developing and implementing new methods of
teaching to reflect changes in research;



·        
Participate in Departmental, Faculty Boards and
University Committees and



·        
Participate in peer review of research by
colleagues in the same field.



 



Innovation,
Industrialisation and Community Engagement



·        
Representing
the institution at professional conferences and seminars and contributing to
these as necessary;



·        
Pursue
applied research leading to innovation and industrialization;



·        
 Actively participate in Department and Faculty
innovation, industrialization and community engagement  initiatives;



·        
Nurture and
promote students’ innovation and industrialization efforts and



·        
Establishing
collaborative links outside the university with industrial, commercial and
public organizations. participating in external working groups. Undertake
continuous professional development and participate in staff training
activities.



 



 



Qualifications And Experience

At least a Master’s
Degree in Mining Engineering, Mineral Processing/Metallurgical Engineering,
Geological/Geotechnical Engineering, or related field;



BSc (Hons) Degree or
equivalent in Mining/Rock Mechanics Engineering, with at least a Lower Second
(2.2) degree classification.



A PhD in Mineral
Resources Evaluation, Extraction, Processing and Management fields, as well as
teaching experience at a university level will be an added advantage.



Some teaching experience at
tertiary level and publications in related field or hands-on mining industry
experience in related fields, as well membership of a professional body such as
the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers is not a must but desirable
