Position SYSTEMS LIBRARIAN (1)
Description

The Systems Librarian's
core responsibility is to guide the technological development of the Library,
administer and support all information technology systems, and manage library
digital infrastructure as assigned by the Librarian.



Duties

  • Develop, manage, evaluate, and periodically
    update the comprehensive Library Technology Strategic Plan aligned with
    the University’s digitization goals.
  • Monitor global and regional library technology
    trends, emerging web tools, AI applications, and recommend sustainable
    frameworks for implementation.
  • Oversee the operational integrity, deployment,
    maintenance, and regular update cycles of all library hardware and
    computing systems across all branch libraries.
  • Provide technical administration, custom
    development, systems maintenance, and access configuration for the
    Integrated Library Management System (ILMS - Koha).
  • Administer the Institutional Repository
    (DSpace) and Open Journal Systems (OJS), ensuring standard preservation
    backups and continuous metadata quality control.
  • Provide technical leadership in the design,
    updates, and maintenance of the Library Website, discovery layers, social
    media pages, and mobile platforms.
  • Coordinate with Faculty Librarians and
    publishers to configure, authenticate (via EZproxy/OpenAthens), and
    troubleshoot continuous access to e-resources and databases.
  • Design and execute information technology
    training programmes for Library staff and library clientele (students and
    researchers) to maximize digital resource adoption.
  • Establish structured system backup policies,
    Disaster Recovery Plans (DRP), and data security frameworks for all
    digital library assets.
  •  Act as the principal technical liaison
    between the University Library and the Central ICT Department to resolve
    enterprise network, infrastructure, or software integrations.
  • Serve as the strategic technical advisor to
    the University Librarian on ICT procurement, licenses, infrastructure
    upgrades, and technology policy formulations.
  • Perform any other technology-related duties
    that may be assigned by the Supervisor.


Qualifications And Experience
  • Applicants must have a Master’s Degree in Information Technology/Library and Information Sciences and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Technology/Library and Information Sciences.
  • At least two years’ experience working with working with Integrated Library Management Systems (ILMS) and digital repositories in an academic or research library environment.
Skills
  • Proven experience with open-source library platforms (e.g., Koha, DSpace, Open Journal Systems) and standard database technologies (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL).
  • Familiarity with international library technology metadata standards and protocols (e.g., MARC21, RDA, Dublin Core, OAI-PMH, Z39.50).
