The Assistant Librarian position is a middle manager in the Library. The purpose of the job is to contribute to the development of library collections, make sure information is delivered promptly, and assist with various research tasks. The Assistant Librarian will also serve duties of faculty liaison to an assigned faculty.

| Duties |
- Fosters strong, collaborative relationships
with faculty to align library resources and services with their research,
innovation, commercialisation, teaching and learning needs. - Assists in
the assessment, and implementation new information technologies in the library. - Facilitates in acquisition, preservation
and disposal of library materials, cataloguing, classification, and metadata
creation for library materials. - Assists in the enforcement of library
policies. - Contributes to the assessment of library
facilities, collections based on user needs and trends, cataloguing practices. - Contributes to collection, archiving,
accessibility, and discoverability of the university's research output. - Assists with training and support for
library staff. - Monitors compliance with licensing and
access rights. - Processes interlibrary loan requests.
- Participates in library stock take and
collects data for usage statistics. - Provides information literacy skills
training and research support. - Registers and orients new library users and
participates user education programmes. - Contributes to supervision and periodic staff
performance evaluations in a designated section. - Participates in library quality assurance
programmes. - Supports the administration of user
surveys. - Contributes to the development of policies,
guides and standards. - Collects statistics on patrons’
registration, library resources usage, etc. - Performs any other Library-related duties
as assigned by the Sub-Librarian, Deputy Librarian or Librarian.
