Position PLANT PRODUCTION MANAGER
Description

Bindura University of Science Education invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Plant Production Manager at the Zambezi Valley Masawu Value Addition Plant.

The Plant Manager will provide overall leadership and management of plant operations, ensuring efficient production, product quality, food safety, staff supervision, process control and compliance with applicable quality, hygiene, safety and environmental standards.

Duties
  • Planning, coordinating and supervising all plant production activities from raw material receiving to finished product packaging and storage;
  • Monitoring process control throughout all stages of production;
  • Ensuring consistent quality of raw materials, products under processing and finished products;
  • Implementing and maintaining effective quality control and quality management systems;
  • Ensuring compliance with HACCP, food safety requirements, hygiene procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices and relevant ISO standards;
  • Conducting and coordinating sensory evaluation of products to ensure acceptable quality and consistency;
  • Coordinating laboratory testing of raw materials, packaging materials and finished products;
  • Managing and supervising production staff, including production supervisors, quality control personnel, laboratory technicians, process engineers and machine operators;
  • Ensuring proper handling, grading and inspection of raw materials before processing;
  • Monitoring production efficiency and ensuring production targets are achieved;
  • Coordinating and supervising production trials for new and improved products;
  • Ensuring proper management and documentation of non-conforming products and implementation of corrective actions;
  • Conducting regular housekeeping and hygiene inspections throughout the plant;
  • Ensuring production areas, machinery and equipment are maintained in a clean and hygienic condition;
  • Coordinating plant maintenance to minimize equipment downtime;
  • Compiling production, quality control and technical reports;
  • Maintaining accurate production and quality records;
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable food standards and regulatory requirements;
  • Coordinating procurement and inventory requirements for raw materials, packaging materials and production supplies;
  • Working closely with Research and Development, Procurement, Marketing and other relevant departments and
  • Promoting occupational health, safety and environmental compliance within the plant.
Qualifications and Experience
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Food Processing, Chemical Engineering, Production/Process Engineering or a related field;
  • At least five (5) years’ relevant experience in food processing, beverage production, fruit and vegetable processing or a related manufacturing environment;
  • Relevant supervisory or management experience in production or quality control;
  • Practical experience in process control, quality control and food safety management;
  • Experience in handling raw materials and monitoring products throughout the production process;
  • Experience in laboratory and product quality testing would be an added advantage;
  • Knowledge and practical application of HACCP and ISO-based quality management systems and
  • Experience in production trials and management of non-conforming products would be an advantage.
