Position LECTURER / SENIOR LECTURER / ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR / PROFESSOR - SPORT AND EXERCISE SCIENCES AND SPORT MANAGEMENT
Description

The Department seeks to appoint four academics across two complementary disciplinary streams: Sport and Exercise Science and Sport Management. Successful candidates will contribute to teaching, supervision, research, innovation, industrialisation, community engagement, academic leadership, and resource mobilisation. Candidates should be able to teach at least six postgraduate courses within their relevant disciplinary stream, with teaching allocations determined by departmental needs and staff expertise.

Sport and Exercise Science: Sports Engineering; Innovation and Technology Integration in Sport; Indigenous Knowledge Systems in Sport and Exercise Sciences; Psychology of Exercise; Biomechanics for Sport and Exercise; Sport and Exercise Psychology; Sports Performance Analysis; Nutrition for Sport and Exercise; Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation; Long-Term Athlete Development; Sports Training and Coaching Science and Practice; Kinanthropometry; Research Methods; and Sport and Exercise Analytics.

Sport Management: Strategic Sport Brand Marketing in the Digital Age; Strategic Management and Leadership in Sport; Sport Governance, Politics and Diplomacy; Strategic Sport Finance; Safeguarding in Sport; Physical Activity for Special Populations; Strategic Sport Operations and Supply Chain Management; Sports Tourism and Extreme Adventure Management; Human Capital Management in Sport; Sports Law and Ethics; Innovation and Technology Integration in Sport; Facilities and Events Management; Sports for Sustainable Development; and Sport, Society, and Olympism.
Duties

In line with the university's Education 5.0 mandate, successful candidates will be expected to:

  • Teaching and Learning: Deliver and assess relevant undergraduate and postgraduate courses using appropriate face-to-face, blended, and digital approaches.
  • Research: Conduct and publish high-quality research and contribute to collaborative research activities.
  • Community Engagement: Apply disciplinary expertise through outreach, professional service, and stakeholder-engaged initiatives.
  • Innovation: Develop and support innovative, evidence-based solutions arising from teaching, research, and engagement.
  • Industrialisation: Translate research and innovation outputs into products, services, processes, and other forms of socio-economic value.
  • Supervision and Mentorship: Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research and support students’ academic and professional development.
  • Academic Leadership and Service: Contribute to curriculum development, quality assurance, institutional committees, and other academic responsibilities.
  • Resource Mobilisation and Partnerships: Support grants, consultancy, fundraising, and strategic partnerships with relevant stakeholders. 
Qualifications and Experience

• A relevant Master of Science degree in Sport and Exercise Science, Sport Management, or an equivalent sport-related discipline, attained with at least a merit, together with a foundation first degree in a sport-related learning area.

• A PhD, or evidence of studying towards a PhD, will be an added advantage.

• At least two (2) years of university teaching experience.

• A proven record of scholarly publications will be an added advantage.

• Demonstrated ability to mobilise funds or contribute to externally supported projects will be an added advantage.
Skills

•Strong university-level teaching, assessment, and curriculum development capability in the relevant discipline.

• Sound research, scholarly writing, publication, and collaborative research skills.

• Ability to supervise and mentor undergraduate and postgraduate students effectively.

• Competence in digital pedagogy, learning technologies, and the integration of technology in teaching and professional practice.

• Capacity for innovation, applied problem-solving, and translating research outputs into practical or industrialisable solutions.

• Grant and proposal writing, fund mobilisation and partnership-development skills.

• Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal, teamwork, and stakeholder-engagement skills.

• Strong organisational, analytical, leadership and project-management skills appropriate to the level of appointment.
